For the collection that outgrew the drawer.

This is the Large — the one you buy when there are more than a handful of necklaces, when two people share a dresser, or when the collection is still growing and you'd rather not buy twice. A lift-out tray on top for what you wear this week, deep storage underneath for everything else, and seven hooks in the lid so chains stop knotting themselves.

Three things worth checking before you buy any jewelry box

1. Is it actually solid wood? A lot of "wood" jewelry boxes are MDF or particleboard with a thin wood skin. That construction is more prone to chipping at the corners than solid wood. The tell is the corner: veneer shows a seam line where the wood layer meets the substrate, and solid wood doesn't. This is solid black walnut — the grain runs through the corner, not across it, and you can check that the day it arrives.

2. Is it divided, or is it one big cavity? A single open compartment with a flat velvet pad photographs beautifully and is miserable to use — rings roll, earrings get buried, and within a month you're back to a pile. This one has ring rolls, earring slots, generous padded compartments for watches and bracelets, and a round recessed section.

3. Do necklaces hang? A chain left coiled in a compartment will knot itself inside a week. Seven hooks in the lid plus a fabric pocket keep chains suspended and separated — a hanging necklace arrives untangled every time you open the box.

Two levels, because you don't wear everything

The lift-out handheld tray holds your daily edit — the pieces you reach for without thinking. Carry it to the mirror, then drop it back in. Underneath is deeper storage for the occasional and the sentimental. Two tiers in one footprint, and you're not digging through a season's worth of jewelry to find your everyday studs.

How it arrives

Checked and packed by hand — velvet-lined throughout, brass knob on the lid, ready to give without wrapping.

Large or Medium — which should I get?

This is the Large, with 7 necklace hooks. Get it if the collection is still growing, if there are more than four or five necklaces, or if it's shared between two people.

The Medium — two inches narrower, 6 hooks — covers most everyday collections and takes up less dresser space.

Not sure? Count your necklaces. More than six and you want this one.

Caring for walnut

Almost nothing: a soft dry cloth for dust, and a spot out of direct sun and away from heating vents. Twice a year, a thin coat of beeswax polish or food-grade mineral oil rubbed in with the grain keeps the finish from drying out.

Avoid aerosol polishes containing silicone — they build a film that dulls the wood and is hard to strip. Full detail in our walnut care guide.
